Bryan King doesn’t understand why Everton decided to sign Chelsea striker Armando Broja.

The ex-Goodison scout would have preferred the Toffees sign a player who was fit and ready to play.

Everton confirmed via the club’s official website on Saturday (31 August) that they had signed Broja on a season-long loan from Chelsea, with the option to make his move permanent next summer. However, the striker arrives at Goodison Park with a foot injury.

As reported by Alan Myers via X (31 August), Broja is expected to be out for around seven weeks.

And King – speaking exclusively to Goodison News – doesn’t understand why the transfer went ahead.

“How did this player even get injured? He hasn’t exactly been a regular at Chelsea,” King said.

“I’d have sooner the club signed someone ready for next week’s matches, that is for sure. Certain players move to clubs, they’re straight in the team and up and running after 10 days.

“It seems like a very strange decision. I cannot understand it.”

Sean Dyche was in desperate need of reinforcements. Therefore, considering that fact and the late nature of this deal, it is likely that Everton were willing to overlook the injury.

Support is needed in attacking areas at Goodison Park and Broja will no doubt be a welcome addition.

However, supporters will just be hopeful that it isn’t too little too late by the time the Albanian takes to the pitch.

If he isn’t able to feature consistently for almost another two months, and Everton keep playing the way that they are between now and then, there might be little the 22-year-old can do to help turn the club’s fortunes around by that point.

In other Everton news, Neal Maupay has been blasted after aiming a “disrespectful” swipe at the club.
