'I can't see': Alan Shearer predicts Arsenal v Southampton and makes 'awful' Saints observation

Arsenal take on Southampton this weekend in what should be a relatively easy fixture to head into the international break on.

The Gunners are playing some of the best football they’ve ever produced under Mikel Arteta and beat PSG in midweek with ease.

Southampton, meanwhile, are struggling to get anything going this season under Russell Martin and look to be heading back to the Championship unless there’s a big change.

Of course, the big story is Aaron Ramsdale’s return to Arsenal and he’s bound to get a nice reception from The Emirates crowd.

However, according to Alan Shearer, a nice reception for Ramsdale might be as good as it gets for Southampton.

Alan Shearer predicts Arsenal v Southampton

Predicting the game for The Metro, Shearer has predicted it to be another day of struggle for the Saints.

“Southampton were awful in the first half against Bournemouth. They capitulated after looking bright for the first five or ten minutes. As soon as they conceded they just folded. They were a bit better in the second half, but it was too little, too late,” Shearer writes.

“I can’t see them getting anything at the Emirates, where Arsenal taught PSG a lesson earlier in the week. Arsenal to win.”

Southampton’s 9-0 record could be on the line against Arsenal

Southampton have been on the end of the two biggest defeats in Premier League history at 9-0 – twice – and in all honesty, this could be a similar story.

If Arsenal click and score early, then Southampton are in for a very long day in north London.

Of course, it will take some doing for the game to end 9-0. But the way Arsenal are playing right now, you can’t count it out. Russell Martin will stick to his way of playing and if Arsenal get their press right, then it could be curtains early doors for the Saints here
