'I did not know that': James Maddison stunned after finding out £5m once played for Tottenham

James Maddison had his hands on his head after finding out that one player used to play for Tottenham Hotspur.

The Englishman is now one of Spurs’ most important players. He had a great start to life in North London following his move from Leicester City in 2023, and even though Maddison struggled in the second half of the season, his talent is unquestionable.

Maddison is working hard in pre-season and has done well so far. He is looking forward to having a much better second campaign under Ange Postecoglou.

The midfielder’s Tottenham knowledge was put to the test in a video, and Maddison was left shocked after he was told that one player used to wear Spurs’ colours many years ago.

James Maddison’s reaction after finding out Kevin-Prince Boateng once played for Tottenham

Maddison’s knowledge of Tottenham players from the past is actually pretty good.

The England midfielder wasn’t a Spurs supporter growing up, but he seems to have had an eye on who played for them many years ago.

JD Football quizzed Maddison by showing him pictures of former Tottenham players and asked him to name them.

The 27-year-old got every single one of them right. He guessed Louis Saha, , Adel Taraabt, Wilson Palacious, Frazier Campbell, Eidur Gudjohnsen, Steven Pienaar and even David Bentley correctly.

However, when Kevin-Prince Boateng’s picture came up, Maddison seemed a little confused.

That’s not because he didn’t know who the Ghanaian was but because he actually had no idea that he played for Tottenham many years ago.

Maddison had his hands on his head after finding out.

Looking at the picture, he said: “It looks like Kevin Prince-Boateng. I didn’t even know he played for Spurs. Kevin Prince-Boateng played for Spurs?

“God, I did not know that!”

A look at Kevin-Prince Boateng’s Tottenham career

Tottenham signed Boateng from Hertha Berlin in the summer of 2007 in a £5 million deal (Guardian). He signed a five-year contract at Spurs at the time.

The North Londoners faced stiff competition from Sevilla for his signature back then, but they managed to beat the Spanish side for his signature.

Boateng, however, ended up playing just 24 games for Tottenham, totalling 980 minutes. Just seven of those appearances came from the start in the Premier League.

After 18 months at the club, he was loaned out to Borussia Dortmund for six months before being sold to Portsmouth in the summer of 2009.

Even though Boateng’s time at Tottenham wasn’t really memorable, he can proudly say that he was a part of the last Spurs team to win a trophy – the League Cup in 2008.

He played five games in the competition but missed the final due to an injury.
