'I don't understand' - Wenham tears into some Tottenham fans after recent 'Nonsense'

John Wenham has blasted the Tottenham supporters piling pressure on both Brennan Johnson and Ange Postecoglou.

The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose insists that he doesn’t understand how negative comments are helpful.

Johnson recently deactivated his Instagram after receiving abusive messages on the social media platform, with ex-Spurs scout Bryan King slamming the “cowards” who sent him this abuse.

And Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – agrees with King.

“Johnson is someone who scored several late winners in his first season, and contributed to a lot of goals,” Wenham said.

“Yet people bombard him with this absolute nonsense. We have to support our own players. How is that supportive when you’re piling pressure on somebody?

“I don’t understand that way of supporting. If a player is wearing the Tottenham shirt, we should be encouraging them and building them up to do well.

“Hopefully it is all put to bed now. It was fantastic to see the actual match-going fans fully behind Johnson and fully behind Postecoglou too. Most of the things we see on social media aren’t representative of the actual match-going support.”

Those directing abuse toward Johnson or Postecoglou are a small minority of Spurs supporters. Therefore, they are by no means reflective of the club’s entire fanbase.

However, unfortunately, those supporters are out there, and they have gotten into Johnson’s head.

The forward deactivated his Instagram account, and few could have blamed him if his performance levels dropped off. However, instead, he has responded in the right way, silencing his critics with two goals in as many games.
