Brennan Johnson has overcome his difficult start to the 2024-25 season to become a key player for Tottenham Hotspur in recent weeks.
The Welsh international was subjected to a lot of criticism from fans and pundits for his underwhelming performances for club and country.
Johnson even deleted his Instagram account in the wake of those events, but since then, he has responded in some style with a brilliant goalscoring run.
And the former Nottingham Forest attacker admits one Tottenham player caught his eye even before he joined the club.
Brennan Johnson admits he used to watch Son Heung-min before joining Tottenham
Son is one of the greatest players in Tottenham’s recent history and has delivered consistently for the club over the years.
Johnson says he used to watch videos of the South Korean, pinpointing his ability to strike the ball with both feet as a quality that stood out to him.
“Even before I came to Spurs, I used to always watch Sonny,” said Johnson.
“Not too many videos of him specifically but whenever Tottenham played, I’d always watch him.
“Even now, I find it amazing how both-footed he is. Watching it firsthand is amazing.
“I don’t know if he’s too aware, I haven’t told him anything in particular but he probably knows in the way I ask him questions and how I reach out to him – he understands that I definitely respect him very highly as a player.”
Son and Johnson’s stats this season
Johnson scored in six successive games across all competitions for Tottenham earlier this season, a run that was halted when he failed to get his name on the scoresheet against West Ham United earlier this season.
