Darren Bent admits he has “no doubts” Everton will avoid relegation but insists teams are queuing up to buy Jarrad Branthwaite.
Sean Dyche’s side are looking to pick up their second win of the Premier League season when they face Newcastle United at Goodison Park on Saturday (5 October) having beaten Crystal Palace last time out.
Although talkSPORT pundit Bent admits the Toffees haven’t been good enough this term, he believes they have the defensive qualities to “eke out” wins when the pressure is on.
Speaking on talkSPORT on Friday (4 October, 17:42) he said: “It’s as simple as that, they haven’t been good enough. But I still think there are worse teams than Everton.
“[Jordan] Pickford, England international. Ashley Young won big trophies at Inter Milan and Manchester United. [James] Tarkowski and Branthwaite. Everyone is trying to buy Branthwaite.
“I think they can eke out 1-0s, 2-0s were obviously the problem. I think they’re going to be fine, I have no doubts Everton will be fine.”
Will Jarrad Branthwaite exit Everton amid Goodison Park transfer rumours?
As Bent suggests, it does feel as though teams all around the Premier League and beyond are queuing up to take Branthwaite off of the Toffees’ hands, but that doesn’t mean he will be going anywhere any time soon.
While the Blues are still in the Premier League, they have a good chance of keeping the England international at Goodison Park and it seems as though most pundits and fans expect them to dodge the drop.
Ultimately, Branthwaite will only leave Merseyside if it is on the Toffees’ terms. Until someone is willing to match the Blues’ ever-growing valuation, Dyche and those around him won’t be willing to sanction his exit.
Hopefully, Bent’s prediction will come true and Everton will be nowhere near the relegation zone come the end of the season.
With new owners set to be at the helm and potentially a new manager, maybe Branthwaite could be a Blues player for a while longer yet.
