'I hope he takes it' - Wenham hails int'l Tottenham star after what happened last night

John Wenham has backed Tottenham star Pedro Porro to establish himself as Spain’s starting right-back.

The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose believes the 25-year-old’s Spain call-up reflects his fine form at club level.

Porro started and helped Spain keep a clean sheet as the European champions beat Denmark 1-0 in the UEFA Nations League at the Estadio Nueva Condomina on Saturday (12 October).

And Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – has backed the defender to make a name for himself on the international stage.

“I know fans often moan about these international call-ups,” Wenham said.

“However, I think it shows they’re doing well at club level, which is positive for a player’s confidence, such as Porro.

“Dani Carvajal is out long term, which gives Porro a chance to establish himself. Jesús Navas has also retired from international football.

“Therefore, there is a gap for Porro to establish himself as the starting right-back, and I hope he takes it.”

Tottenham right-back Pedro Porro shines for Spain

Spain appearances have been hard to come by over the past couple of years for Porro, despite his largely positive form for Spurs.

Therefore, he would have been delighted to start in the Nations League on Saturday in a potential sign of what is to come.

Should the defender continue to feature consistently at international level, it will only increase his confidence and make him a more well-rounded player.

However, it will of course give Ange Postecoglou an extra headache, with the Spurs boss no doubt bound to worry about his starting right-back picking up injuries while on duty for Spain.

Postecoglou’s side have been hit by injuries this season, although they did recently finally receive a positive bit of news (via Paul O Keefe, 10 October).

Nonetheless, it is a positive overall for Porro and therefore Spurs, even if it does come with an added risk.

In other Tottenham news, Bryan King has been left fuming after £50million-plus transfer speculation.
