'I think': Alan Shearer predicts whether Arsenal can still win the PL title after draw with Chelsea

Following their draw against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, Arsenal are now nine points behind Liverpool in the Premier League title race.

After 11 games played, Arsenal are also still four points behind Manchester City who have just lost four games in a row in all competitions – a first in Pep Guardiola’s career.

Mikel Arteta’s side have been waiting patiently for City to wobble over the past couple of seasons, and when they finally do, it’s actually Arne Slot and Liverpool who are taking advantage.

That being said, there are still 27 games to be played in the Premier League this season, and Arsenal have overcome some difficult away tests – avoiding defeat in most.

Arteta’s team have already gone to Aston Villa, Man City, Tottenham Hotspur and now Chelsea, meaning there could still be hope for the reverse fixtures.

Alan Shearer explains how Arsenal can still win the Premier League this season

Speaking with Gary Lineker on ‘The Rest is Football’ podcast, Alan Shearer was still in a positive mood about Arsenal’s chances of ending their Premier League wait.

Shearer thought the draw at Chelsea was a strong result and stated that it would be far too soon to rule Arteta’s team out just yet.

Speaking on the podcast, Lineker initially said: “Nine points behind Liverpool, Arsenal. That’s a lot, isn’t it?”

Shearer replied: “Yeah it’s a lot. But I think they’re capable of going on a really good run and you would would hope, from their point of view, they’ve got through their injuries a couple of weeks back, come back after the international break and go on a four or five game run where they can win every game and they can do that.

“So I wouldn’t rule Arsenal out just yet. I think it was a decent result for them today, getting their point – it would have been a disaster if they had been beaten.

“But getting their point, I still wouldn’t rule them out.”

Martin Odegaard return is a huge boost for Arsenal

Of course, Arsenal’s title hopes will hinge on their key players staying fit, as Shearer alluded to.

Martin Odegaard was just as good as Arsenal fans would have hoped at Stamford Bridge, he provided attacking threat, calmness on the ball and leadership – all of which were sorely missed of late.

Despite Odegaard’s good performance, Gary Neville thought a different Arsenal player stood out during the 1-1 draw with Chelsea.

And even if Arteta’s side failed to beat Inter Milan or Chelsea this week, the Spaniard will probably take confidence from the two games.

Arsenal played at a much more familiar level in the second half against Chelsea, something that bodes well moving forward.
