'I understand...' - Alan Myers: Everton aware of Maupay post with internal next steps shared

Everton are “aware” of what Neal Maupay posted after their defeat against Nottingham Forest in the Premier League on Sunday, Alan Myers says.

The Sky Sports journalist shared an update after the Frenchman joked he smiles when Everton lose after the 2-0 defeat at Goodison Park on 29 December.

Myers has shared that the Toffees will deal with the matter internally, with the striker still on loan at Marseille.

Writing on his personal X account (30 December), he said: “I understand Everton are aware of Maupay’s social media post, and the matter will be dealt with internally and privately.”

Everton need to take action against Neal Maupay

The 28-year-old striker is on loan at Olympique Marseille after leaving the Toffees in the summer.

While the France Under-21 international isn’t with the Blues right now, he’s still associated with them, and his comments after the Goodison fixture are unacceptable.

Maupay will eventually return to the Merseyside outfit at the end of the season if a permanent option isn’t triggered, but it would be surprising to see the forward continue there.

Everton need a prolific number nine more than ever, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin struggling to find the back of the net.

Beto has also failed to light up the Premier League since his move from Udinese in 2023.

Armando Broja joined the Blues on a temporary move from Chelsea in the previous transfer window but the Albanian has missed most of the season due to fitness issues.

The Frenchman has a reputation as a troll, so it will be interesting to see how the Toffees handle the case, with a punishment on the cards.

In other Everton news, Calvert-Lewin has been told to quit after what has happened recently.
