'I understand': Reporter shares what he's heard about Raheem Sterling's dream outcome after joining Arsenal

Arsenal have secured the signing of Raheem Sterling and the winger appears to have big plans in mind after arriving in North London.

Chelsea’s loss has been Arsenal’s gain on a couple of occasions in recent years.

Jorginho and Kai Havertz have both got their careers right back on track after trading Stamford Bridge for the Emirates Stadium.

It’s now Raheem Sterling’s turn to try and follow suit having completed his move to Arsenal on Friday.

The Gunners have secured Sterling for the season with a very low wage contribution, no obligation to buy and no loan fee.

This looks to be an absolute bargain for Arsenal as Sterling reunites with his former Manchester City coach Mikel Arteta.

Raheem Sterling has a dream in mind at Arsenal

The view on Sterling is that he hasn’t hit the heights expected of him at Chelsea.

Perhaps that is true, but even in a disjointed side and in an up-and-down season personally, Sterling still managed eight goals and four assists in 31 Premier League games.

Sterling has the quality to chip in with goals and assists for Arsenal from across the front line with his versatility hugely appealing.

Sterling will no doubt want to prove Chelsea wrong for ditching him, but he also has another motivation in mind.

Reporter Darren Lewis has told The Kelly and Wrighty Show (02/09) that he has heard Sterling wants to get back into the England squad.

Euro 2024 is only just in the rear view mirror but Sterling has the 2026 World Cup in mind – and wants to shine with Arsenal to get back in the England fold.

“I understand he wants to get back into the England squad for the World Cup, so I know he’s going to be driven to succeed as well. I think this could be another terrific signing for Arsenal,” said Lewis.

Sterling has now taken the number 30 at Arsenal with the likes of Alan Shearer and Gary Lineker excited to see him in action.

Sterling faces major competition for England

England aren’t exactly short of options out wide.

Marcus Rashford and Jack Grealish joined Sterling in terms of being completely left out of the Euro 2024 squad as Phil Foden and Anthony Gordon got the nod down the left side.

Sterling can also play on the right but England can call on Bukayo Saka and Cole Palmer down that side.

The 29-year-old’s last England appearance came in the World Cup exit at the hands of France in 2022.

Forcing his way back in may now be a battle for Sterling but all he can do is take his chances for Arsenal and make himself impossible to ignore.

This is all great news for Arsenal as Sterling has a clear dream in mind and only shining for the Gunners will help him achieve it.

A fit, firing and inspired Sterling could make a big impact this season and Arsenal will hope this move really re-energises Sterling after a difficult start to the season at Chelsea.
