Ianis Hagi breakthrough emerges at Rangers - report

Ianis Hagi has returned to the Rangers first team to bring an end to the stand-off between player and club, The Rangers Review reports.

According to the outlet’s website on 1 October the Romanian international is back in training with Philippe Clement’s squad after a resolution was reached between the two sides, having been stuck in the B Team since his return from loan at Alaves last term.

The manager had repeatedly insisted there was no way back for the 25-year-old but admitted on 13 September the decision hadn’t been entirely his.

A contract clause was also believed to be complicating the matter, with the Daily Record reporting on 13 August, that Hagi was due a wage-rise if he played more for the first team.

Philippe Clement to have Rangers in squad again

It is arguably a situation that should have never reached this point, but having done so it has to be a major positive that a solution has been found.

Having the club’s most capped international languishing in the reserves when Clement was hardly overrun by attacking options in the first team was an embarrassment, even if Hagi isn’t going to solve all the problems on the pitch this term.

The former Genk man and his agents appeared to have no interest in an exit from Ibrox and a move to Rapid Bucharest was turned down during the transfer window [Sky Sports, 26 August].

Hagi himself made clear on Instagram that he was willing to seek a compromise, as had been called for by the likes of Ibrox News pundit Derek Ferguson.

It appeared their hopes that the situation would move once the transfer deadline passed had fallen flat as Nedim Bajrami arrived for £3.4million at the end of the window [Sky Sports, 30 August] and Hagi remained out of the picture over the ensuing month.

But belatedly it looks like the club have at last seen sense and found a way to break the deadlock, giving Clement another option amid injury issues with the likes of Rabbi Matondo.

In other Rangers news, the club have been told to sit down and talk over a possible takeover amid mooted foreign interest.
