MK Dons have entered the race to try and sign Forest Green Rovers midfielder Charlie McCann, sources have told Football Insider.

The Dons are working on the deal to sign the 22-year-old, but they will face competition to secure his signature as multiple other League Two clubs have also expressed an interest in him.

McCann is expected to leave Forest Green Rovers following their relegation to the National League as he looks to remain at his current level.

The central midfielder initially joined Forest Green from Rangers in January 2023 for a fee of £225k, and he has been a regular for the club ever since.

McCann’s contract expires in 2026, but following Forest Green’s relegation the club could have to let him go.

Charlie McCann can thrive in League Two for MK Dons

McCann would be a solid addition to the MK Dons squad, which narrowly missed out on promotion last season via the playoffs.

Despite his young age, he’s an experienced midfielder, featuring in 41 League Two games last season, scoring four goals and providing two assists.

That creativity and ability to cause problems offensively is likely a significant factor in why so many teams are currently trying to secure his signature.

McCann has previously played for some of Europe’s biggest clubs in Manchester United and Rangers, bringing valuable experience and knowledge with him wherever he signs this summer.

Mike Williamson’s squad was one of the strongest offensively last season in League Two, with only the three automatically promoted teams scoring more than MK Dons.

Williamson will aim to take the club one step further this coming season as they push to return to League One automatically.

In other news, Sheffield Wednesday are interested in a Plymouth Argyle player.
