Ibrox View: 3/10 a disgrace, 8/10 best of the lot - Rangers player ratings so far this season

Rangers have had an up-and-down start to the campaign, with some stars standing out among the rest with their performances.

Philippe Clement has come under fire at times this season with the Gers currently sitting in third place in the Scottish Premiership, five points behind Celtic and Aberdeen.

There have been some positive showings so far, but there have also been many frustrating performers who must improve as the season continues.

Ibrox News have rated the players out of 10 for their performances so far.

Jack Butland – 6

Despite not being as good as he was last season, the shot-stopper has still had some positive moments such as his penalty save against St Johnstone.

Liam Kelly – N/A

The summer signing from Motherwell is yet to make an appearance at Ibrox as he plays second-fiddle to Butland.

James Tavernier – 3

The right back has struggled for form this campaign which has seen plenty of negative reviews from supporters. Tavernier has only gotten worse this campaign, summed up by a poor performance in the Europa League against Lyon.

Robin Propper – 4

Another summer signing who has failed to make much of an impact is Propper. The Dutchman has started all but two of the Gers’ league games but could certainly improve.

John Souttar – 6

Souttar has typically paired the ex-FC Twente man and has been consistent and positive in his performances at Ibrox this campaign.

Ridvan Yilmaz – N/A

Yilmaz has featured in just two matches so far this season after suffering an injury which makes his campaign difficult to give a rating.

Neraysho Kasanwirjo – 5

The loanee has had a few standout moments in his limited opportunities since signing and could prove to be an important player as the season goes on.

Jefte – 6

The Brazilian was involved in the most frustrating moment of the season against Dynamo Kyiv but has recovered well from that. There are some flaws to his game but that hasn’t stopped him from having a positive start to the season overall.

Kieran Dowell – 4

Dowell has made just one start in the league so far this season, which sums up his role and how he is rated by the Light Blues.

Ianis Hagi – N/A

The Romanian made his long-awaited return against St Johnstone and grabbed an assist before being sent off. Given that he has played just one game, it isn’t fair to rate his season’s work.

Nicolas Raskin – 5

A consistent performer when called upon by Clement but it is telling that he has made just two Scottish Premiership starts this season.

Mohammed Diomande – 6

The 22-year-old has been a key member of the squad at Ibrox and will be frustrated that he hasn’t grabbed a goal or more than two assists. There is more to come from Diomande.

Connor Barron – 7

The summer signing has come under fire for his mistake against Lyon but overall he has been a useful and positive addition to the squad at Ibrox. Barron has some learning to do and could be better but it has been a good start to life in Glasgow.

Dujon Sterling – 5

The versatile Englishman has struggled to displace anyone to earn a first-team role but has looked positive when handed the chance off the bench.

Nedim Bajrami – 5

The summer signing is yet to truly land himself a regular starting role for the Gers but he has shown flashes of quality. Supporters are keen to see more of Bajrami after the international break.

Tom Lawrence in superb start to season for Rangers

Tom Lawrence – 8

The 30-year-old has arguably been the talisman at Ibrox so far this season under Clement with four goals, including a top-class strike against Hibernian. There is a lot to like about the Welshman’s game and supporters will be hopeful that he can maintain his form.

Rabbi Matondo – 6

Matondo has suffered an injury but did register two goals and two assists in just four Scottish Premiership appearances which is a positive return. He will be hoping that he can hit the ground running when he returns.

Ross McCausland – 7

McCausland might only have one assist to his name but has been a generally positive performer and just needs to add goals to his game to become a key player under Clement.

Hamza Igamane – 4

The Moroccan has generally struggled since joining in the summer. There isn’t much to say about the striker given how little the 21-year-old has played.

Vaclav Cerny – 6

The Czechia international signed on loan with plenty of fanfare but has frustrated supporters at times with his performances. This hasn’t stopped him from scoring three goals and providing one assist so far this campaign in a useful return.

Danilo – N/A

Things just haven’t worked out for the Brazilian at Ibrox. Despite scoring one goal in his two appearances this season, Danilo has suffered another injury which has ruled him out and makes it hard to give him a fair rating.

Cyriel Dessers – 8

The Nigerian consistently comes under fire from Gers fans but that hasn’t stopped him from scoring seven goals in just 13 appearances so far this campaign. A very positive season overall so far for Dessers, even if he does still have his critics.

In other Rangers news, Lawrence Shankland has moved a step closer to Ibrox with Hearts now resigned to the striker’s exit.
