Ibrox View: Rangers simply must take full advantage after 'Biggest' sponsor deal struck

Rangers must take advantage of the deal struck with the Kindred Group to become the official shirt sponsor and use the financial gains to close the gap on Celtic.

The deal is believed to be the “biggest” in Scottish football with the sponsorship deal set to net the Gers £3 million per year [Four Lads], half a million more than Celtic’s reported £2.5m deal.

It is unchartered territory for the Light Blues to broker a more financially profitable deal than their Scottish Premiership rivals, and presents a golden opportunity for Philippe Clement to begin bridging the gap at the top of the Scottish Premiership.

Rangers cannot afford to thwart golden opportunity

The deal for Rangers to receive £3m per annum, to continue sporting Unibet and 32red on the shirts, may sound like a nominal fee but in the landscape of Scottish football this deal could mean everything.

Clement has endured a difficult time of things at Ibrox this year. After missing out to Celtic on two trophies late last season, his side now trail Celtic and Aberdeen in the league by five points, and after the Champions League exit humiliation, qualification to the knockout stages of the Europa League is now uncertain after the 4-1 loss to Lyon.

Rangers attempted to navigate smart in the transfer market this summer, offloading several high earners to fund a squad overhaul which, at this current moment in time, has seemingly set the club back further in their quest to topple Celtic.

The finances at Ibrox are well-documented. The club does not have the financial muscle to acquire top-quality talent and the current unwanted stars are not reputable enough to demand big-money fees.

With the help of some financial manoeuvring, the Gers can use this deal with the Kindred group to their advantage and top the transfer funds with a £3m increase, which could be the difference between signing an average or top-quality player – or no player at all.

There is no doubt Clement will need to enter the transfer market again in January. The current crop of players, including some new signings, have proven they are not up to the challenge.

Opportunities such as this don’t come along very often, and it is time for the Rangers board to show they mean business and dedicate themselves to the cause.

In other Rangers news, the Gers ‘disgust’ lingers at Auchenhowie after controversial behind-the-scenes sacking.
