Ibrox View: Clement must never play this Rangers player in his midfield again after Kyiv shocker

Phillipe Clement should stick to playing Dujon Sterling on the wing after his midfield Rangers cameo against Dynamo Kyiv.

The Gers were dumped out of the Champions League on Tuesday night (13 August), losing 2-0 at Hampden to the Ukrainian side.

Supporters were left fuming when Jefte was given a second yellow which eventually resulted in the Light Blues’ downfall and elimination.

With the score at 0-0, Clement made a substitution which eventually saw his side drop down to the Europa League.

Dujon Sterling shouldn’t play in midfield for Rangers again

The Englishman typically adds energy to the Rangers’ side off the bench which is what was asked of him at Hampden.

With the Gers being a man down, his style of play eventually resulted in the midfield being overrun by Dynamo with the scores still level.

This allowed them to get an even further foothold on the game before eventually making the most of their man advantage.

For his performance, the Scotsman gave the 24-year-old a 3/10 rating suggesting he “was asked to protect the midfield when down to ten men”.

Replacing Mohamed Diomande, it is safe to say that Sterling wasn’t able to do that and was part of the problem in the end rather than any solution for Clement.

Whether this issue was caused by being down to ten men, there is a good chance that it contributed towards the defeat.

Either way, it may prove to be beneficial moving forward if Clement keeps the former Chelsea youngster in positions he is used to.
