Rangers getting Kemar Roofe’s nationality wrong at their annual general meeting is the latest example of the club’s haplessness.
Heart & Hand podcaster Colin McMillan posted on X (5 December) live from the club’s AGM after a graphic was put up showing the Gers’ incomings and outgoing transfers in the summer window.
While fans’ attentions will have been drawn to the £41million saved in wages from 10 departed players, Roofe’s name was posted next to an English flag, despite the 31-year-old be a Jamaican international.
Roofe’s five Jamaica caps going over the editor’s head, as well as Hamza Igamane being aged incorrectly, shows that amid a sea of off-field issues at Ibrox, a lack of attention-to-detail is prominent.
Kemar Roofe error the latest in a catalogue of errors at Rangers
The Gers forgetting Roofe is a full Jamaica international – having never represented England at any level – becomes even ironic when realising that all five of his caps came in 2021, while he was starring at Ibrox.
As the AGM plans and graphics were clearly made since then – detailing Roofe’s departure on a free transfer from Govan this summer – fans will have hoped that the club would pay closer attention.
This AGM has been in the works for some time, and although the Light Blues broke from their initial plan to have a new chairman in post by the time it was held, updates to the graphics have clearly been sparse.
Igamane, for example, is a player whose name is one every’s lips following his superb displays against Nice and Kilmarnock across the past week, but he turned 22 on 2 November – now over a month ago.
While Roofe is yet to find a club since his exit from Ibrox and will therefore be out of mind for Gers fans, the club’s inability to get the basics right at seemingly any level is constantly coming back to bite them.
In other Rangers news, James Taylor’s revelation about five players sold by the club this summer led to audible gasps at the AGM.
