Rangers risk losing out to Celtic for Lennon Miller if Barry Ferguson’s prediction for the Motherwell star comes to pass.
Speaking on the Go Radio Football Show (18 November), Ferguson was confident that Miller would be sold in January, with the 18-year-old being valued at £4million by the Steelmen.
Gers are one of several clubs linked with signing Miller in the upcoming transfer window, including Celtic, but with a chasm already existing between the Old Firm, the Light Blues can’t afford to miss out.
“The valuation of £4m is fair on Lennon Miller – I think he’ll get sold in January. There’ll be a hell of a lot of clubs in for him at that price”, Ferguson said.
“Would I love to see him at Rangers? 100 per cent I would – can Rangers afford him? I don’t know.”
Asked how he would feel if Celtic signed the youngster, he said: “I wouldn’t be too happy of course – you want to see good young players go to your team.
“I would be absolutely shocked if both Celtic and Rangers aren’t interested. There will be teams down south, teams in Italy – he could easily play for Celtic or Rangers.”
Lennon Miller transfer can help Rangers bridge the gap to Celtic
Adding an 18-year-old central midfielder into a side competing for a Premiership title wouldn’t normally be expected to make that much difference, but Miller’s next move could prove crucial in this regard.
At present, the Bears are barely hanging on in the title race despite the season being just four months old, sitting nine points behind high-flying Aberdeen and leaders Celtic.
Therefore, if Celtic were to sign Miller and bolster an already impressive midfield line, Gers fans would likely lose any remaining hope that Philippe Clement’s side can claw back the deficit before May.
Despite a whole host of off-field problems at Ibrox – with transfer plans likely dependent on whether or not Clement remains in a job – business in January is expected with Miller possibly at the top of their list.
The one advantage held by the Gers is the fact that compared to the likes of Celtic and Liverpool, Miller is far more likely to walk straight into their team, and that could hold the key as a transfer battle begins.
In other Rangers news, Gordon Dalziel weighed up how the Scotland national side would perform against the two Old Firm clubs.
