Andy Walker slams 'Daft' Rangers as he shares Philippe Clement prospects v Celtic

Andy Walker isn’t confident about Rangers and their chances against Celtic in the final of the Scottish League Cup.

Hampden Park is set to witness the Old Firm derby on 15 December, and Philippe Clement is looking for his first win over the Bhoys as the Gers’ head coach, with a record of one draw and four losses so far.

The Gers overcame Motherwell in the semi-final with a narrow 2-1 victory on 3 November, but speaking on the Go Radio Football Show Podcast [19 November], Walker shared his doubts about the Light Blues and slammed them for not being able to overcome the Hoops in recent fixtures.

“As we’ve been saying ever since Philippe Clement has come in the door, you need to be able to put together a team and a plan to beat Celtic, even though you might still be second best. So far, he hasn’t managed to do that.

“They’ve been celebrating 3-3 draws and daft things like that. His biggest problem is trying to put together a team that will beat Celtic.

“You could almost pick Celtic’s starting eleven right now ahead of that cup final. I have no idea who Rangers might pick.”

Rangers need a win over Celtic

Clement is currently under pressure at Rangers after a poor start to the season, and it’s a surprise that the Belgian hasn’t been relieved of his duties yet.

If the 50-year-old makes it until the Celtic fixture, then he unarguably needs a victory to stay in the dugout longer.

A loss to the Old Firm rivals in the final will certainly be the last nail in the coffin for Clement, and the board will have no other option but to find a replacement, even though the financial situation at the club might make them reconsider.

The Light Blues have already taken on the Bhoys four times this year and got a 3-3 draw on 7 April before losing three back-to-back fixtures against them.

Most recently, the Bears were given a reflection of where they stand in the rivalry as Brendan Rodgers’ team overwhelmed them with a 3-0 victory.

The Scottish Premiership already looks out of Rangers’ reach, with Celtic nine points ahead of them in the league table.

Going by how the Light Blues have performed this season, it would be hard to back them against the Hoops, but stranger things have happened, and the Ibrox faithful will be behind their team at Hampden come the final.

In other Rangers news, the reasons the club aren’t sacking Clement have been revealed.
