Ibrox View: Shankland ready to jump at Rangers transfer, Bennett must splash top dollar

Lawrence Shankland is a name that has been linked with plenty of clubs this transfer window, including Rangers.

The striker was in stellar form for Hearts last season and managed to contribute to a total of 39 goals in 47 games across all competitions.

A fresh update from the Scottish Daily Mail [1 July], has shared that the Hearts talisman would “jump at the chance” to sign for Rangers.

It is said that a “top-dollar” bid would be needed and that John Bennett is reluctant to do that for a player who is out of contract next summer.

The Bears have instead agreed on a deal to sign Hamza Igamane so far, and the 21-year-old is likely to be announced later on Wednesday [3 July].

Although Igamane adds some extra firepower to their ranks, the youngster can’t be solely relied upon to lead the line.

Why Rangers need Lawrence Shankland

Not only from last season but across the entirety of his career, Shankland has been a stellar goal scorer.

The Glasgow-born striker has scored a total of 206 goals during his 13-year career and doesn’t look to be slowing down any time soon.

The Hearts star could not only alleviate some of the pressure from the likes of Oscar Cortes and Todd Cantwell to produce but he could also be an ideal mentor for new boy, Igamane.

The Morocco international will still have plenty to learn, especially since it’ll be his first season outside his home country.

Although there is still plenty of time left in the window to make moves, it feels like the Gers should make their bid for Shankland sooner rather than later otherwise they could miss out on an ideal target.

Bennett must splash the cash now if he is serious.
