Paul Robinson expects Richarlison to be sold before the August 30 deadline after Tottenham signed Dominic Solanke.
Spurs have signed the 26-year-old on a club-record £65million deal, as per BBC Sport, with the Brazilian’s future at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium being thrown into uncertainty.
He has already been linked with a move away from North London this summer, understood to be a target for several clubs in the Saudi Pro League [talkSPORT, 12 May], and Robinson does not think he will be a Spurs player once the window closes.
Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, he said: “I’d be surprised if he was still here at the end of the window. He’s a player that I really like. He’s committed to the club, he’s committed to football. You can see his love for football.
“But, for whatever reason, he hasn’t been able to do it on a regular basis for Tottenham. To be fair to the player, he’s not had a regular run of games where he’s played as a No.9 or out-wide. His versatility at times has been his detriment because he can be used in different positions.
“Son Heung-Min was given the chance to play through the middle, scored the goals, and Richarlison didn’t do it again last season. His numbers aren’t enough as a No.9, but as a person, he’s someone you want in your squad.
“If he’s playing for your team, you love him, but all the opponents don’t. I’ve enjoyed watching him in a Spurs shirt, but with the arrival of Solanke and the players behind him, you struggle to see where his game time comes from.
“You wouldn’t blame the player for leaving. I can see it happening but I don’t think the move will be within the Premier League, whether it’s to Saudi Arabia or into Europe.”
Tottenham to sell Richarlison after signing Dominic Solanke?
While many fans at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium have taken a liking to Richarlison since arriving from Everton in 2022, it may finally be time to say goodbye.
With the amount of pure attacking talent now at Ange Postecoglou’s disposal, it is difficult to see where the versatile forward fits into the starting XI, either upfront or on the left flank.
At 27 years of age, Richarlison will be looking for regular minutes on the pitch, and after only starting 18 Premier League matches last term, it seems his future lies elsewhere this summer.
In other Tottenham news, Ange Postecoglou is set to make a Lucas Bergvall decision in Tottenham starting XI v Leicester City.
