Finance Expert: Amanda Staveley looks to get foot in door at Tottenham after £500m prediction

Amanda Staveley would see much of her investment swallowed up in the money it would take to purchase a stake in Tottenham as she looks to get a foot in the door, Dan Plumley has said.

It was reported by Bloomberg (18 July) that Spurs are one of the clubs on Staveley’s radar as she looks to reinvest the reported £500million she received from selling her minority stake in Newcastle United.

Keith Wyness, the former chief executive of Everton, told Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast that she could feasibly earn a stake of around 10-15 per cent with £500m.

The Times said that Spurs are open to the possibility of seeking a minority investment, with the club valued at around £3.75billion.

Finance expert Plumley said that the majority of the money would be initially tied up in buying the stake but would help Staveley get a foot in the door at the club.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, he said: “If she’s looking for some sort of minority stake in and around 10 per cent that’s going to be swallowed up pretty quickly in that £500million.

“It’s about right as we said in terms of the valuation, £3.75billion so that money won’t go an enormously long way but it might get you that foot in the door, that’s got to work for both parties of course if Tottenham are looking for a group of minority investors to build stakes or whether or not they want a full takeover outright by one person or groups.

“So, there’s lot of kind of question marks within that but if it’s a £500million fund and the valuation is being touted at £3.75billion then yeah 10 per cent stake will get swallowed up quite quickly within that.”

Amanda Staveley could be a Tottenham asset

While it is true that an initial £500m would get swallowed up pretty quickly, Staveley is a very savvy businesswoman who could be a huge asset to Spurs.

She did some fantastic work growing the appeal of Newcastle, particularly globally, and is extremely well connected.

With Tottenham already on an excellent financial footing, it could make a lot of sense to bring in someone with Staveley’s standing.

Any opportunity to grow the club, on and off the pitch, should always be explored, so it feels like this one could certainly have legs.

In other Tottenham news, one Spurs star looks likely to be sold before deadline day on 30 August.
