Aston Villa have been big spenders in this summer transfer window, and their business may not be finished yet.
The Villans have splashed the cash to sign the likes of Amadou Onana and Ian Maatsen this summer, and they may have another sizeable signing to come.
Indeed, Matty Cash’s injury could force Villa back into the defensive market, and according to Dean Jones, speaking on the Ranks FC Podcast, attention is now turning back towards Lutsharel Geertruida.
Villa had been linked with Geertruida earlier this summer, and now, they’re seemingly going back in for the £30m Dutchman.
According to Jones, confidence is actually growing around this deal being done.

Jones shared what he knows about Villa’s transfer plans.
“They have picked up an injury, Matty Cash suffered a setback, so the attention in the last 24 hours has gone back onto Lutsharel Geertruida. They have been linked with him for a while, and that’s a genuine link I’m told. In the last few hours before we started recording this there has been some optimism about that actually being plausible,” Jones said.
Geertruida would be a brilliant signing for Aston Villa
This would be a very smart signing for Villa.
Of course, when a player picks up an injury, you can often see teams go into panic mode and sign a replacement who is surplus to requirements within a few months.
However, this isn’t that type of signing for Villa.
Geertruida is more than good enough to be a long-term right-back option for Unai Emery’s side, while he’s also capable of playing at centre-back if needed.
This is a fantastic signing to add extra depth to a team that needs as deep a squad as possible as they embark on a Champions League campaign this season.
