Ryan Gravenberch has been one of Liverpool’s brightest sparks this season as they find themselves at the top of the Premier League standings.
The Dutchman has started each of the Reds’ seven Premier League games and has delivered a string of eye-catching displays as a number six.
After Martin Zubimendi rejected a move to Liverpool, Arne Slot refrained from pursuing alternatives and instead opted to show faith in Gravenberch.
And the 22-year-old has made the most of his opportunities so far, contributing to both phases of play with relative ease.
Ahead of the Netherlands’ UEFA Nations League fixtures, Ryan’s older brother Danzell has revealed what has changed with the Liverpool midfielder this season.
Ryan Gravenberch’s brother says Liverpool man is letting his football do the talking
Danzell is also a professional footballer and is currently plying his trade in the second division of Dutch football.
The 30-year-old believes his younger brother has become more aware of his potential in recent months, which is a big reason behind his flying form.
“It feels like he got sporting revenge just by letting his feet do the talking,” said Danzell Gravenberch to Dutch news outlet AD.
“That’s Ryan. In the past, Ryan had moments when he seemed to dream a little. That was probably because it was easy for him when he was young. He didn’t always have to do that much.
“He was sometimes absent for a while. But that has really changed. I don’t see those moments anymore. Ryan has become a guy who knows exactly what he can do.
“They used to talk about his nonchalant attitude. But if you look at the distances he’s covered, you’ll see that he’s really not that nonchalant. Maybe it’s because of his smile!”
Ryan Gravenberch currently indispensable for Netherlands and Liverpool
The 22-year-old has played every Premier League and UEFA Champions League under Slot and also featured heavily for the Netherlands in the previous international break against Germany and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
At Liverpool, he’s tailor-made for the number six role and has made that position his own, with Wataru Endo deputising for him.
Gravenberch will look to continue his rich vein of form for club and country as he aims to establish himself as one of the most exciting midfielders in world football.
After a few years in the wilderness, he is playing the best football of his career and looks like he is on his way to satisfying his outrageous potential.
