'Inevitable' - Sky Sports pundit drops Clement sack verdict at Rangers, makes ten Hag comparison

Kris Boyd believes that just like Erik ten Hag at Manchester United, Philippe Clement also looks a few months away from being sacked at Rangers.

The Sky Sports pundit states that he can see similarities between the Dutchman and the Belgian given the excuses they make after games and also their failure to improve players.

Gers are already playing catch up domestically as they find themselves five points behind league leaders Celtic.

Boyd told the Scottish Sun (4 October): “If parallels can be drawn between Brendan and Big Ange, I can also see similarities between Philippe Clement and Erik ten Hag.

“Rangers and Manchester United are two teams in the same boat right now. They win a game and suddenly they are on the way back. Then the next mishap is just around the corner.

“A bit like Ten Hag after United lost to Postecoglou’s Spurs and then snatched a late point against Porto, it’s excuse after excuse from Clement.

“I don’t like it. If you look below the bonnet at Gers, you ask which players have actually improved under the Belgian boss.

“He’s spent money, brought in his own players, but I don’t see where it’s all going. Just like Ten Hag, it looks like the inevitable is only a few months away.”

Kris Boyd is being too harsh on Rangers boss Philippe Clement

Boyd’s comparison between Clement at Ibrox and ten Hag at Old Trafford seems somewhat misplaced when considering their tenure and circumstances.

Ten Hag has had over two seasons to implement his vision with substantial investment, whereas Clement is just navigating his first full season with Rangers, dealing with significant player turnover and integration of new signings.

The Belgian hasn’t had the luxury of time or financial backing that the Dutchman has enjoyed.

Furthermore, under Clement, there are signs of improvement in players like Connor Barron and Cyriel Dessers, indicating progress at the individual level, which the Sky Sports pundit overlooks.

Boyd’s prediction of an imminent sacking for Clement based on this comparison seems premature and not fully reflective of the distinct challenges faced by the managers at their clubs.

While things are not ideal for the Belgian at Ibrox, any suggestions of him being sacked are premature.

The club would be foolish to make such a call before the new year begins and hopefully, they do not decide to sack him.

In other Rangers news, Graeme Souness has issued a £8.28million revelation at the club after what he learnt recently.
