Dan Bardell believes Rangers playing at Hampden Park isn’t a good look due to a large number of empty seats.

The Gers registered an attendance of 38,943 in their 2-0 win against St Johnstone [The Scotsman] which left nearly 13,000 seats empty on Saturday (17 August).

This has seen rival fans criticise the Light Blues for their support given that 25 per cent of the stadium was vacant.

Sky Sports and talkSPORT journalist Bardell has suggested it looks bad on the club, especially in a period of unrest from supporters.

Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, Bardell said: “It doesn’t look great when you’re in a massive stadium and it’s half empty.

It obviously affects the atmosphere and when there’s negative feeling around like there is at Rangers at the moment things like this get jumped on.

In an ideal world, you don’t want to be playing away from your home ground anyway, it isn’t something fans are ever going to warm to. It must feel strange not going to their magnificent old stadium.

All around, it isn’t great.

Rangers Hampden Park move slammed

The distance between Ibrox and the national stadium is an obvious contributing factor to a loss in supporter base at games.

It has to be said that against St Johnstone, the attendance matched up to what would have been expected at a normal home game.

Against Dynamo Kyiv, the difference was felt and although there was no official figure shared, it was clear to see that the stands weren’t filled.

On another night, if the Gers were playing at Ibrox the result could have been different to the highly disappointing 2-0 defeat.

John Bennett and the hierarchy at the club are ultimately to blame for this which has made the Light Blues into a laughing stock for rival fans.
