'It's never easy to say goodbye' - Player bids farewell to Rangers as new club found

Borna Barisic has sent a heartfelt message to Rangers fans on social media after securing a move to Trabzonspor this summer.

The club confirmed [1 June] that Barisic would be one of the players departing Ibrox at the end of their contracts, joining Ryan Jack, John Lundstram, Jon McLaughlin and Kemar Roofe.

While there is no official announcement from the Turkish club yet, the full-back was pictured with a Trabzonspor shirt, and so too was midfielder Lundstram [atcolin via Twitter].

Taking to Instagram on Monday (24 June), he wrote: “It’s never easy to say goodbye, especially to something that means that much to you like Rangers FC means to me and my family.

“I want to thank everyone in the club and around the club for everything that you did for me and my family in the last 6 years. Thank you to all my teammates, coaching staff and all staff in the club for everything.

“I made friends and memories for life. At the end, I just want to say thank you to all the fans because our relationship was fantastic always and always will be. I will always follow you and support Rangers. Never surrender my friends, love you from the depth of my heart.”

Barisic was an extremely handy deputy during his six seasons at Ibrox, amassing 236 appearances for the Gers after joining from Osijek in 2018.

Despite his versatility, the left-back was only able to make 15 Scottish Premiership appearances this season, with Ridvan Yilmaz normally preferred over the Croatian.

At 31 years of age, he still feels he has a lot to give on the football pitch, which does not currently seem like an option under Philippe Clement, with the club having just signed Jefte from Fluminense.

Barisic will be remembered fondly for his performances at Ibrox over the years, though the club need to move forward, and sadly for the full-back, he is not part of the future plans.

He will always be welcomed back at Ibrox after moving to Turkey, even despite some of the criticism of his quality on the pitch during his final season with the Gers.
