“It’s part of the game” – Former Rangers midfielder warns Dessers to keep his emotions in check

Former Rangers and Sunderland midfielder, Derek Ferguson, has warned Nigerian striker, Cyriel Dessers, to keep his emotions in check when on the pitch, Soccernet.ng reports.

The 29-year-old was a hero for the Gers in Poland, scoring a late equalizer in their UEFA Champions League away qualifier against Dynamo Kyiv to set up an interesting fixture at Hampden Park in Ibrox.

Things turned sour for Rangers in front of their home fans, losing Jefte Silva to a red card in the early minutes of the second half before conceding two late goals, which condemned them to a place in the UEFA Europa League.

Dessers cut a frustrated figure in the second half of that game, falling out with a fan after he failed to control a long pass. The Super Eagles striker signalled the fans to support the team rather than criticize them.

After the game, ex-Rangers midfielder, Derek Ferguson, urged Dessers to keep his cool, and do the talking on the pitch rather than vent his frustration to the fans.

“I’ll tell you what, that’s when the fans kicked in. That’s when the fans returned and gave them a wee bit back. By the way, it’s just another wee thing. We praised him last week, but Dessers, be careful, mate. We get that you’re giving your all and a bit jaded and all that, but when the fans are giving it to you, that’s part of parcel of being at Rangers, Celtic, Aberdeen and Hearts. That’s part of the game. You’ve got to accept that. When he started giving it that, I was really surprised. I tell you, you’re in for a rough ride,” the 57-year-old Scottsman said on the Open Goal Podcast in quotes revealed by Rangers review.
Dessers has scored two goals in four games for Rangers this season, averaging a goal every two games, as he continues to put the work in to prove doubters wrong.
