'I've not seen that at Goodison before' - Alan Myers baffled by Everton scenes

Alan Myers has been left baffled by the mass exodus at Goodison Park as Everton lost 3-0 to Brighton.

The Toffees suffered a disappointing defeat on the opening day with the away side taking advantage of Ashley Young’s red card to win comfortably.

As the match was coming to a close, plenty of Toffees fans made their way to the exits leaving Goodison half-empty by full-time.

Sky Sports news editor Myers took to X on 17 August to share his surprise to see the stadium empty as it did.

He said: “I can honestly say I’ve not seen that at Goodison before, and you can’t blame them, however the fact that those fans will be there again at the start of the next game is hugely important and impressive IMO.”

The Toffees will have been frustrated to suffer such a heavy defeat on the opening day after carrying some positivity from preseason.

Despite winning just one friendly over the summer, the transfer additions had given reasons to be excited for the new campaign.

This optimism was nullified by full-time at Goodison with the Seagulls taking over with a 3-0 hammering of the home side.

The result was not what any fan wanted to see but to leave early in massive numbers was certainly a surprise given it was only the first day of the season.

Calls from certain sections of the supporter base have even called for Dyche to lose his job but these demands are far too premature.

It was a bizarre choice from the manager to bring on Mason Holgate when already 2-0 down but is a choice he wanted to make.

There is a long way to go and given how fickle football fans are, Goodison will likely be bouncing again for the clash against Bournemouth.
