The battle to be the best young player in the Premier League is often a hotly contested one.
Over the years, we’ve seen some truly brilliant young stars in the Premier League and the last few years have seen younger players pick up big awards.
Indeed, last year saw Phil Foden win the player of the year award in the Premier League at just 23, while the year before Erling Haaland grabbed the prize.
The likes of Wayne Rooney, Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo have all won it at a young age as well.
Of course, going into this year, the battle is on again and two of the top young players in the game right now are Manchester United’s Kobbie Mainoo and Liverpool midfielder, Harvey Elliott.
And over on Sky Sports, Jamie Carragher has picked who he feels is the better young player right now.
Jamie Carragher picks Kobbie Mainoo over Harvey Elliott
Picking between Mainoo, Elliott and Adam Wharton, Carragher went straight to the number one spot in picking Mainoo and didn’t even question it.
While there was little discussion on Mainoo, Carragher and Gary Neville both nodded to how good Mainoo was in the FA Cup final, as well as his impact for England at the Euros.
The duo went with Mainoo at number one, Elliott at number two, and Palace’s Wharton in third.
Interestingly, Gary Neville suggested Elliott as a player who could thrive at Manchester City.
Kobbie Mainoo is Manchester United’s future
It’s quite remarkable that Kobbie Mainoo is still only 19 but here we are.
After his efforts with England in the summer, it very much feels like we are witnessing the start of a player who could dominate for years in the Premier League.
Manchester United must be counting their lucky stars that they’ve developed and brought through such a talent.
Indeed, when you look at England, the mere mention of this trio here should fill any future manager with huge confidence.
