'Keep him': Ange Postecoglou confirms he wants 'brilliant' Tottenham player to stay and not be sold

Tottenham are doing plenty of wheeling and dealing this summer but manager Ange Postecoglou seems adamant one player is staying put.

Spurs are close to making a major signing in the form of Dominic Solanke and have moved a number of players on like Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Bryan Gil.

Archie Gray has also arrived from Leeds, while Timo Werner has come back on another loan spell.

However, while talk of Solanke coming in dominates, that’s led to suggestions that Richarlison could be on his way out.

Richarlison has said himself he wants to remain at Tottenham. And now, his manager, Ange Postecoglou, seems to have backed that stance.

Ange Postecoglou discusses Richarlison’s future as Dominic Solanke deal nears

Speaking in his press conference ahead of this weekend’s clash with Bayern Munich, Postecoglou confirmed he’d like to keep Richarlison around.

“I’m not sure where the uncertain future comes from, not from my behalf,” Postecoglou said.

“When he was fit last season he played and played well. When he was missing we had to play Son in there and cover areas so this isn’t about replacing Richarlison, this is about adding to our squad.

“We want to get stronger with every transfer window. I see him as part of what we’re trying to build. Hopefully we can keep him healthy and play more.

“By having more depth in that area means we can protect our players more and cover their absences when not there.”

Depth is vital for Tottenham

Richarlison hasn’t had an amazing time at Tottenham by any means but he remains an international striker with proven ability at this level.

Thierry Henry has lauded him as ‘brilliant‘ in the past and performances at Watford and Everton have shown he can deliver.

At the end of the day, Richarlison is Brazil’s number nine so he must be doing something right.

And over a long season, having both he and Solanke as part of the squad is going to help Tottenham.
