Arsenal are aiming to build a squad capable of beating Manchester City on all fronts as they continue to go from strength to strength under Mikel Arteta.
The Gunners have only won one trophy – the FA Cup in 2020 – under the Spaniard but have shown clear signs of improvement with each passing season, having finished second behind City in their last two Premier League campaign.
Ray Parlour knows a thing or two about winning trophies, having won three Premier League titles amongst others and establishing himself as a club legend during his time at the club between 1992 and 2004.
The 51-year-old, who now works as a pundit, has given his thoughts on Arsenal‘s Premier League title hopes ahead of the new season.
Ray Parlour believes Arsenal can beat Man City to Premier League title
While Parlour thinks Man City are favourites to win the Premier League title, he believes Arsenal can finally get their hands on the trophy after missing out narrowly in the past two seasons.
“It’s got to be Man City (favourites for the title) but I think Arsenal have got an excellent chance to win it,” said Parlour on talkSPORT (9:57 am, August 9, 2024).
“The bookmakers don’t get it wrong too often, and they will have Man City as favourites to win and win five in a row. But I am going to go with Arsenal to win it, but they will not be favourites at the start of the season.”
Do Arsenal have what it takes to become Premier League champions?
Parlour is not alone in thinking his former club can go all the way this season. Harry Redknapp predicts Arsenal to win the Premier League title despite his Tottenham Hotspur allegiance, which is a clear sign that they are headed in the right direction at the very least.
Arteta’s young squad would have learned a lot from being involved in two Premier League title races in as many years and will look to add to their squad further with a signing or two before the transfer deadline.
The Gunners don’t really have any glaring holes in their squad but could do well with another quality midfielder in their ranks, having already bolstered their backline with the signing of Riccardo Calafiori.
Arsenal are in talks to sign Mikel Merino from Real Sociedad and could also be in the market for an attacker, with TBR Football exclusively revealing that Bournemouth are plotting a move for Eddie Nketiah.
