Jamie Carragher shares honest verdict on Liverpool’s chances of winning the PL after 3-0 Man United win
What do we think, Reds❓
After their 3-0 thrashing of Manchester United, Liverpool are now one of only two teams in the Premier League with a perfect record after three games.
Arne Slot’s Liverpool side were superb at Old Trafford, and it almost felt like something of a turning point for the Dutchman.
Mohamed Salah and co have already impressed since Slot arrived this summer, but there was a different aura about Liverpool on Sunday, who had the arrogance of one of Jurgen Klopp’s best teams.
Of course, after registering three wins from three, and sitting top of the Premier League alongside Manchester City heading into the international break, the question has to be asked – can Liverpool win it?
Slot won’t enjoy those kinds of questions this early into his tenure and the season, but the excitement deriving from his side’s performances won’t go unnoticed.
Jamie Carragher suggests Liverpool are outside contenders for Premier League title
Speaking after the game during Sky Sports’ coverage, Carragher shared his opinion that Liverpool were closer to title contention than people think right now.
The pundit thought a draw could have even been a good result for Liverpool on Sunday, and said this win will give so much confidence to Slot’s players.

Carragher said: “Coming into this game, I actually thought it was bigger for Erik ten Hag than it was for Arne Slot.
“For Liverpool having won the first two games, even a draw here wouldn’t have been the end of the world. It’s historically a tough place to go but Liverpool have really enjoyed themselves here.
“What this does is give the supporters and the players real belief. The majority of the players have won everything there is to win… it gives them real belief in a manager moving forward that maybe this team is closer to challenging for the league title than many people think.”
Arne Slot not happy with Trent Alexander-Arnold despite win
Of course, if Slot is going to achieve something remarkable this season then he will need to maintain the highest of standards.
And the manager’s refusal to accept anything less was evident at Old Trafford despite how well the game was progressing.
In the first half, Slot was fuming with Trent Alexander-Arnold for trying a flick around the corner instead of finding a teammate with a straightforward pass.
Alexander-Arnold was excellent throughout, but it’s clear that every single player is accountable to Slot, they have to buy into his new ideas.
An excellent result and performance for Liverpool, who head into the international break in buoyant mood.
