Ahead of the Asian Cup and subsequent fitness issues, Takefusa Kubo was one of the most exciting players in Spain last season. With Kubo’s downturn, Real Sociedad’s Champions League challenge fell off, but the Japanese winger showed just how good he could be.
The 23-year-old reportedly attracted interest from Saudi Arabia and Liverpool in the January transfer window, but nothing came of it at the time. However it has been reported in Japan that Liverpool are looking to activate his release clause and are in talks with Kubo over a contract.
Nevertheless, Matteo Moretto has explained that according to his information, this is not the case. So far there has been no concrete discussions about a departure for the exciting forward. This will come as a major relief for Txuri-Urdin fans, who are already contemplating a season that may not feature Mikel Merino or Robin Le Normand. Losing Kubo would be a major blow for Imanol Alguacil’s side.
