Jesper Lindstrom has told his agent it feels “natural” to be an Everton player after the Napoli loanee scored on his debut in pre-season.
The Danish international curled home a superb free-kick in the Blues’ 3-0 win over Preston at Deepdale and has said that despite only arriving on 26 July, it feels more like six months.
Lindstrom failed to score in 29 appearances for Napoli following a £25.7million move from Eintracht Frankfurt but found the net from 25 yards just 69 minutes into his maiden Toffees appearance.
In quotes reported by Danish outlet Ekstra Bladet’s print edition (5 August, page 11), he said: “It’s a great start and I’m looking forward to more.
“As I told my agent, it feels so natural to be here at Everton – it feels like I’ve been here for six months.
“I am very happy here – I had a difficult year at Napoli, but now it’s nice to be here and I feel like I’ve rediscovered my football joy.”
Jesper Lindstrom hints at permanent Everton transfer
It’s early days yet, but Lindstrom speaking of his happiness at Goodison Park – as opposed to his difficulty in Naples – suggests that the buy option in his loan deal is well on the way to being activated.
Should Lindstrom’s free kick against Preston prove to be the first of many in a Toffees shirt over the next 11 months, Napoli will be keen to recoup the £21million permanent fee agreed with Sean Dyche’s side [Corriere dello Sport, 18 July].
Shelling out such an amount on one player currently seems out of the question at Goodison Park, given the uncertainty surrounding the club’s ownership situation after Dan Friedkin’s takeover fell through.
Although Amadou Onana’s switch to Aston Villa has put £50m in the Toffees’ transfer coffers, there are still several other positions with which to use that injection on buying replacements – namely midfield.
But by the time next summer comes around, the Blues will most likely have new owners, and be ready to reap the financial rewards of their move to Bramley-Moore Dock – giving them the financial strength necessary to sign Lindstrom on a permanent deal.
In other Everton news, Neal Maupay was spotted ‘doing Maupay things’ during the Toffees’ latest pre-season friendly against Preston.
