Sean Dyche transfer priority emerges at Everton before 30 August - report

Sean Dyche is set to target a midfielder as his “priority” Everton transfer before the 30 August deadline, according to TEAMtalk.

The outlet reported on 4 August that Manchester City outcast Kalvin Phillips is one of the manager’s top targets for the role at Goodison Park.

Everton have already undergone plenty of change this transfer window and could be set to add more players to their ranks before the 30 August deadline.

Everton to sign Kalvin Phillips?

The Toffees have already undergone a lot of change throughout the summer transfer window thus far.

The club have both sold and bought many players with the hopes of improving the overall quality of their squad and perhaps even improving their Premier League standing.

Phillips has had a tough time adjusting to life away from Leeds United since joining the Cityzens.

He spent the second half of last season on loan at West Ham United in hopes to stake a claim for a Euro 2024 spot.

Unfortunately for the Yorkshireman, this didn’t work out and he was left out of Gareth Southgate’s squad.

Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips
Everton target Kalvin Phillips has been a regular bench-warmer for Manchester City.

Phillips would be a like-for-like swap for Amadou Onana who has joined Aston Villa for around £50million [Sunday Mirror, 28 July, page 73].

The club have already brought in Tim Iroegbunam at the start of the window but it feels unfair to rely upon the 21-year-old week-in and week-out.

The club do have other options amongst their ranks as well but in reality, another midfielder is needed to ensure the club has enough depth within their ranks.

In other Everton news, the Toffees have made a new approach for a striker.
