John Bennett to resign as Rangers chairman - report

John Bennett has informed Rangers of his intention to resign as chairman, according to The Athletic.

The online outlet reported on Saturday (14 September) that Bennett has told his peers he wants to leave as the job has taken its toll.

Bennett replaced Douglas Park in the position last March, stepping up from his previous role as vice-chairman.

However, it is claimed that the role has become too much and he wants to step away. There are said to be no immediate plans to find a successor.

Rangers face further turmoil as John Bennett set to resign

Many have called for Bennett to step aside for a while now, not least on the back of the shambolic nature of the Ibrox renovation project.

The Gers are not in a great place right now and blame ultimately falls with those at the top, where Bennett is very much positioned.

There have been a number of other embarrassments for the club of late, including the failure to appoint Jim Gillespie as CEO.

It means that Rangers are now on the lookout for both a CEO and a new chairman in what has been a rough period at Ibrox.

The Athletic report makes clear that Rangers are in no rush to replace Bennett, so it may well be he stays in situ for a little while longer yet.

There will be a new man in the top job at Ibrox soon, though, in what will hopefully be a brighter future for the Light Blues.

In other Rangers news, the women’s side have announced a new transfer.
