John Textor confirms how much Everton are ready to sell Jarrad Branthwaite for

John Textor has revealed it would have taken £50.6million for Jarrad Branthwaite to be prised away from Everton after heavy interest in the player over the summer.

During a press conference delivered on Wednesday [11 September] in France, the Lyon owner – who is in talks with Farhad Moshiri to take over the Toffees – said the club were after €60m, which converts to £50.6m, to sell Branthwaite, who was the subject of several bids from Manchester United.

The young England international was key to Sean Dyche’s side last season and the club were able to comply with PSR whilst keeping Branthwaite after selling several other stars including £50m midfielder Amadou Onana.

A post on X from journalist Paul Brown [11 September] transcribed the press conference to supporters, as the club rebuffed all approaches for their most coveted asset.

Having been the subject of multiple failed bids from a club willing to hand him an enormous salary, Branthwaite now has to get his head down and continue his football.

A consummate young professional, he embodies the spirit of the Everton supporters but there is a natural fear that he will leave the club sooner rather than later.

Reports suggested the Toffees were holding out for a huge £80m bid – the same as Manchester United paid for Harry Maguire in 2019 [Ben Jacobs, 5 July] – but a matching proposal never arrived on the table.

Sidelined with a groin injury, it can be seen how much of a difference Branthwaite makes to this Everton team. They have been a defensive liability without his assurance in the heart of the backline, conceding 11 goals in just three games.

Textor is certainly creating waves with his comments – potentially the exact kind of publicity which can work in his favour in his attempts to buy the club and turn it into a product on the stock market for fans to get involved.

Developments continue, and could become very interesting after this presser from the American businessman.

In other Everton news, controversy emerges between Vitaliy Mykolenko and Ukraine supporters.
