Journalist says 'High-cost' London firm will be happy with latest Rangers staff news from Ibrox

Rangers needing a new director of football operations will please the London firm hired to aid their recruitment drive, according to Andrew Newport.

Newport reported in the Daily Record (9 October) that the “high-cost” London-based headhunting firm will be rubbing their hands together at the prospect of having another Ibrox vacancy to fill.

Creag Robertson’s resignation as the Gers’ director of football operations follows the departures of Zeb Jacobs, James Bisgrove and John Bennett as academy director, CEO and chairman respectively.

John Gilligan, who stepped in as interim chairman after Bennett’s exit, now needs to appoint another senior figure in the boardroom, and Newport thinks that’s good news for the recruitment firm’s coffers.

Rangers boardroom plunged into further disarray at Ibrox

Minus chairman, CEO, academy director and now director of football operations, few clubs would be able to function on all cylinders, and it’s no wonder that the Gers are seen as rudderless by many an outsider.

On the field, Philippe Clement’s side has had a mixed start to the new season, but off it, the malaise is seemingly only getting worse, with key vacancies doubling since the start of the campaign.

John Bennett is one of several high-profile figures to have tended their resignations at Rangers recently

Bennett’s resignation for health reasons has led to a power struggle between Dave King and other Ibrox shareholders, while the “priority” of finding a successor to Bisgrove as CEO has gone on for months.

Gilligan’s to-do list seemingly gets longer by the week when it comes to appointing new senior figures in Glasgow, and there’s no telling as to when the Ibrox boardroom will be back to its full complement.

Signing several new players over the summer has given Clement a new-look squad, but it may have been wiser for that overhaul to come further upstairs at Ibrox instead.

In other Rangers news, Philippe Clement’s priority in the January transfer window has been shared by a prominent Gers blogger.
