Joe Thomas admits he wouldn’t be “that surprised” if Everton were ready to listen to January transfer offers for Beto.
The Guinea-Bissau striker has been linked with a move away from Goodison Park already this season, with his agent admitting his wages on Merseyside make any potential exit difficult to complete [Ok Calciomercato, 11 October].
While it is unclear whether or not the striker is in any rush to leave the Toffees, Liverpool Echo journalist Thomas believes the Blues would be open to a deal having bolstered their attacking ranks this summer.
Speaking on the Royal Blue YouTube channel (16 October, 8:45) he said: “Of that Calvert-Lewin, Beto, Armando Broja even Youseff Chermiti dynamic, it feels like Beto might have found himself to the bottom of that pecking order when they’re all fully fit.
“So he’s either got to get himself an opportunity or make an opportunity for himself to impress.
“I wouldn’t be that surprised if Everton were willing to listen to offers for him come January if the conditions allowed it.”
Will Beto exit Everton amid Goodison Park transfer speculation?
As Thomas suggests, when everyone is fit it does feel as though Beto is somewhere near the bottom of Sean Dyche’s pecking order when it comes to strikers.
Calvert-Lewin has been impressive so far this season, Broja has arrived with plenty of potential and Youseff Chermiti impressed in pre-season, all while Beto has struggled to make an impact in his first year in the Premier League.
Of course, things can change very quickly in the world of football and if Calvert-Lewin were to pick up an injury that could open the door for the 26-year-old to stake his claim for a starting place. For now, though, it feels as though Beto’s days are numbered at Goodison.
It will be interesting to see what if any, clubs come forward to try and sign the Toffees forward when January rolls around.
Everton won’t be desperate to sell him unnecessarily so you’d imagine they would be keen to hold out for a decent offer before sanctioning his exit.
