Journo shares if Rangers want to sign Dundee man in last-minute deadline day deal

There is no truth in links between Rangers and a last-minute transfer for Dundee midfielder Lyall Cameron, according to Scott Burns.

The Scottish Express journalist reported via X on Friday (30 August) that there is “nothing in” the suggestions that Philippe Clement’s side could sign the 21-year-old before the transfer deadline on Friday.

Clement’s Gers are understood to be closing in on a deal for Neraysho Kasanwirjo who has already arrived in Glasgow on deadline day, with further additions understood to be targeted in the final hours of the window [Sky Sports, 30 August].

Are Rangers close to any new signings ahead of the transfer deadline?

The Light Blues are certainly looking to add to their squad in the final moments of the transfer window, but it seems as though Cameron is not one of the players on Clement or Nils Koppen’s radar at this stage.

Most of the Belgian’s recruitment since he arrived in Glasgow has been based around signing players from abroad, with Connor Barron the only real exception, so it would have been a shock to see them swoop in for the Dundee man.

Rangers could certainly do with another midfielder through the door before the window shuts. While Mohammed Diomande, Barron and Dujon Sterling have all impressed, the Gers are still lacking that genuine destroyer to sit at the base of the side.

Rangers are not thought to be interested in Lyall Cameron

Perhaps that sort of player could still be signed before the window closes late on Friday night, but it would be a major surprise if it was Cameron who arrived in Glasgow to fill that void in Clement’s side.

Hopefully, Kasanwirjo isn’t the only addition made before the Old Firm derby rolls around, otherwise fans will be heading into Sunday’s (1 September) clash with very little confidence.

In other Rangers news, the Light Blues are set to “seriously consider” a last-minute big-money approach for Jack Butland today
