Kasper Schmeichel or Joe Hart? Alan Hutton reveals who's the best of Celtic duo

Kasper Schmeichel will bring a wealth of experience between the sticks for Celtic after signing as Joe Hart’s replacement.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, ex-Scotland international Alan Hutton believes that the 37-year-old’s distribution and experience set him apart from the ex-England international.

Schmeichel made the move to Celtic Park earlier in the transfer window following his release from Belgian club Anderlecht.

The great Dane made his debut for the club in their opening day 4-0 win over Kilmarnock in which he had an impressive 97% successful pass rate and a 75% long ball accuracy rate, completing three out of four attempts.

Schmeichel has had a long and storied career, most notably making 479 appearances for Leicester City and helping them to the Premier League title back in 2015-16.

“I think there’s two reasons why he (Schmeichel) was brought in, his experience of course, he can handle the pressure of playing for Celtic no problem. Hutton told Football Insider.

“The other is his distribution, I do think that’s an upgrade on Joe Hart, no disrespect to him of course, I just feel that Schmeichel has always been good with his feet.

“That’s how Celtic want to play, start attacks from the back.

“He’ll also be able to pass on his experience to the other goalkeepers. He’s not going to be around forever, I mean he’s 37 now.

“If he’s there for a season or two, he can pass on that knowledge to the younger boys coming through and they’re next up in line.

“I think it’s a really smart decision to bring him into the club.”
