Dan Bardell backs Tottenham star to rebuild after 'Miserable' time and 'Sensational' teammate

Dan Bardell has backed Djed Spence to rebuild his Tottenham career as a backup to Pedro Porro next season.

The 24-year-old has featured heavily across preseason under Ange Postecoglou and looks set to stay put in North London for the new Premier League campaign.

This comes after two failed loan spells last year with Leeds United and Genoa with his Spurs return coming as a surprise.

Sky Sports and talkSPORT journalist Bardell believes the Englishman will be well suited to the tactical set-up but will play second fiddle to Porro.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Bardell said: “Djed Spence is more suited to what Tottenham full-backs do than Emerson Royal.

“He’ll do well to get in the team because Pedro Porro had an absolutely sensational season last year.

“It will be good to see Spence rebuild himself and if he can do it with Spurs then fair play to him because he’s had a miserable few years there.

“He’s taken a lot of hits so it will be good to see him be a part of their squad this season.“

Not many fans would have seen the right-back returning to the first-team fold in North London after the early stages of his career there.

After multiple loans went wrong, there seemed to be no way back for Spence and a permanent move away seemed likely.

Postecoglou has obviously seen something in him and wants to have the Englishman as part of his squad moving into the new campaign.

There is a player there from his time with Nottingham Forest and that form may be rediscovered at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium moving forward.

With Royal preparing for a move to AC Milan, there is an opportunity for the 24-year-old to take his place in the Spurs squad.
