Matheus Cunha could be facing a three-match ban after his part in the post-match scuffles between Wolves and Ipswich, Keith Hackett has said.
The former PGMOL chief and ex-FIFA official exclusively told Football Insider that the severity of any punishment could depend on the striker’s previous disciplinary records.
With both team in the Premier League relegation zone, it was a feisty encounter between the two at Molineux on Saturday.
A last minute Jack Taylor header secured a 2-1 win for Ipswich which led to the sacking of Wolves manager Gary O’Neil.
There were also skirmishes between representatives of both teams after the full-time whistle, which Hackett believes could lead to trouble for Cunha, and the club themselves.
Wolves man facing a ban after Ipswich clashes: Hackett
The Brazilian was heavily involved in the disruption after the match, with it being noted that he elbowed a member of Ipswich staff before pulling off his glasses and throwing them on the floor.
It has since been confirmed that Cunha has been charged by the FA for his part in what happened after the match at the weekend, and Hackett has given his take on what might be next for the striker.
Speaking to Football Insider about what punishment the Wolves man might face, the former referee said:
“The length of his ban will really depend on his past disciplinary record, likely to be three games.
“The club may also be charged for failing to control their players. I must say the steward losing his glasses is not a good look.
“If Cunha’s record is good then they may go for a suspended ban.”
To date, Cunha has received 41 yellow cards and no red cards in 251 appearances during his senior career so far (Transfermarkt).
In other news, a La Liga club are planning to re-sign a Wolves player.
