Keith Wyness: England star would be 'perfect' Liverpool signing, £60m could seal deal

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has insisted Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi would be a “perfect” signing for Liverpool this summer.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – suggested it could cost between £60-70million to prize the 24-year-old away from Selhurst Park.

Football Insider revealed in April Liverpool were keeping tabs on Guehi following his impressive form for Palace last season.

The Merseyside giants are in the market for new defensive recruits after appointing Arne Slot as their new manager.

Guehi played an integral role for England at the European Championships, starting in all but one game as his side just missed out in the final against Spain.

Liverpool could strengthen defensively with Marc Guehi signing

Wyness believes the centre-back earned respect for his displays during the tournament despite several of his teammates receiving criticism.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “I think he would be a great buy for Liverpool.

“He is exactly what they need at the back. He’s had a good Euros and is one of the players that’s come away with some respect from his efforts.

“He and Ollie Watkins are probably the two winners from the England squad that have come away with it.

“Guehi is a difficult one, but you could be looking at a £60-70million fee and maybe more with sell-ons.

“He’s a young talent at a good age and seems to have acquitted himself well.

“Never buy on the back of a tournament has always been my belief, but he showed himself last year to be of high enough quality to be selected for the team.

“I think he is the perfect fit for Anfield.”

In other news, Liverpool set sights on signing two goalkeepers.
