Leeds United should sell Wilfried Gnonto this summer unless the club is “one million per cent” sure he will stick around for the long term.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Celtic and West Ham striker Frank McAvennie explained that the Championship club should offload the 20-year-old as it’s a “good investment.”

Football Insider previously reported that Everton have been in contact with the winger’s camp, and the Premier League outfit are confident of securing a deal.

Gnonto himself has given the green light on the deal, and sources say today that he’s interested in making the move to Goodison Park as progress continues to be made in what are still early talks at this stage.

The Merseyside club have had a longstanding interest in Gnonto, but they failed to sign him from Leeds last summer.

The lure of playing Premier League football could prove to be too much though, after the Whites failed to gain promotion back to the top flight last season.

Leeds United should sell Wilfried Gnonto for ‘£25m’

Gnonto has had a bright start to his footballing career, but the unpredictability of the game means his value could quickly decrease in the future.

With the Whites currently able to command at least £20million for him, it could be time to cash in and reinvest the money.

“It depends on what the situation at Leeds is,” McAvennie told Football Insider.

“I think £20-25million for a boy at 20 is a damn good investment because you’ve got to remember people can get injured.

“£20-25million is a great deal for anybody, it’s a great offer, unless you’re going to be one million per cent that he’s going to be staying around for the next few years and take them to where they want to be, then you keep him.

“I would take it if you can get it because you can replace the young boy, sometimes you can’t replace the experienced midfielder; somebody who’s been about and can control the game.

Whereas the young boy, he’s not learned the game yet so maybe it’s maybe a good deal to move him on and bring some other people in.”
