Keith Wyness: Man United could now pay '£60m' to finalise Ruben Amorim deal

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has claimed the cost of Man United sacking Erik ten Hag for Ruben Amorim could run away to “£50-60million”.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – insisted staff costs and losses on players brought in by Ten Hag will factor into that number.

Amorim has been appointed on a contract until June 2027 at Man United and will start work at Old Trafford next week.

The Portuguese boss has confirmed he will bring staff from Sporting CP, with reports suggesting five of his backroom team will follow him to Manchester.

Ten Hag was sacked with more than 18 months left to run on his deal at United and will need to be compensated.

Staff costs and player losses could run to ‘£60m’ at Man United, says Wyness

Wyness suggested the Red Devils could take significant losses on some of the players he was instrumental in signing during his two-and-a-half-year reign at the club.

He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “You’ve got to look at this on a much bigger scale.

“There will be several backroom staff who will also need paying off as well, apparently Amorim is bringing in five staff members.

“There will be some players Ten Hag bought that Amorim won’t want, there will be a loss to take to get rid of those as well.

“There’s the backroom staff at Sporting who need to be paid off to come over too.

“I think it could be £50-60million by the time you take in everything that needs to be done to set Amorim up.

“It all comes back to the decision they made in the summer to keep Ten Hag on.”
