Keith Wyness: Nottingham Forest could now face 'one hell of a fight in court'

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has suggested the £750,000 Nottingham Forest fine will add to their losses under Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – claimed there will be “one hell of a fight” in court if the punishment tips Forest over the edge and towards another PSR points deduction.

Nottingham Forest were fined £750,000 by the FA earlier this month (11 October) for an “attack on the integrity of a match official on an unparalleled scale”, a sanction the club say they will appeal.

The punishment comes after a social media post last season which was highly critical of refereeing in a 2-0 defeat against Everton.

Forest were hit with a four-point deduction for breaching PSR rules last term after losing £61.5million in the 2022-23 campaign, their first back in the Premier League.

Nottingham Forest fine will count towards PSR, says Wyness

Wyness hit out at the authorities for their out-of-proportion response to the social media post.

He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “I’m afraid the FA and PGMOL are not without blame.

“Just because you have to fine people to try and shut them up – that to me, is anti-democratic and wrong.

“I’ve been the victim of it, and it was wrong.

“I think everyone should be allowed an opinion. Of course, there are certain lines which shouldn’t be crossed.

“I would think this fine would count against PSR because it’s a football offence.

“Can you imagine if Forest were £750,000 over the guideline? That would be one hell of a fight in court.

“We’ll watch that and see how it goes before the end of the season.”

In other news, Nottingham Forest will accept “huge” offer for star man.
