Bryan King has backed Everton to sign Elijah Adebayo should Dominic Calvert-Lewin quit the club.
The ex-Goodison scout believes the Luton Town striker would be a good replacement for Calvert-Lewin. However, he doesn’t believe that the club should be focusing on their January transfer business right now.
As reported by Alan Nixon via his Patreon (1 September), the Toffees view Adebayo as a potential replacement for Calvert-Lewin, with Luton open to a sale if bids in the £15-20million region arrive.
But King – speaking exclusively to Goodison News – feels that Everton should be focusing on what they have already got for now.
“It is not an expensive fee if he is going to score goals,” King said.
“He has proven that he can score goals in the Premier League. However, what they need to focus on now is getting their players together and getting results.
“Then, if Calvert-Lewin does move, make a move for Adebayo. However, we’re in September, and we’re talking about the January transfer window.
“At the moment, Everton have got what they’ve got, and the players need to perform.”
Everton to sign Elijah Adebayo to replace Dominic Calvert-Lewin?
Although Calvert-Lewin didn’t leave Goodison Park this summer, it does feel inevitable that the striker will soon move on from Everton.
Therefore, the Toffees will need to replace him, and Adebayo wouldn’t be a bad replacement. The 26-year-old scored 10 goals in 27 Premier League matches for a Luton side which were relegated.
He has proven he knows where the back of the net is, and for a price between £15-20million, it seems a fair fee.
However, King is right to suggest that Everton’s current focus should be on the task at hand. After the start they have made to the season, January transfers should be the last thing on their mind.
If they continue to play as they have been doing, they could be more or less relegated by the time the opportunity to sign Adebayo comes around anyway.
