King backs Tottenham to land 'Bargain' £20m+ signing in 2025

Bryan King claims Johnny Cardoso could end up being a “bargain” signing for Tottenham.

The ex-Spurs scout expects the North London club to have decided on the player before next summer’s transfer window.

As reported by Fabrizio Romano via X (30 August), Tottenham have agreed a priority option with Real Betis to sign Cardoso in the future as part of the deal which saw Giovani Lo Celso move to the LaLiga side.

And Betis’ president, Angel Haro, has confirmed this news (via The Times, 3 September). Spurs can trigger their option for £21million, and have a two-week window in 2025 to do so.

As a result, King – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – believes Ange Postecoglou’s side will be keeping a close eye on Cardoso throughout the season.

“This could end up being a bargain if Cardoso has a good season,” King said.

“Tottenham won’t need the two-week window to decide if they want to sign him or not. They’ll be able to see that from his performances in LaLiga this season – they’ll be following him closely.

“He sounds as though he could be an interesting player for the future. Therefore, they will be watching him every week. I’d imagine the decision will be made before next summer.”

Tottenham to sign Johnny Cardoso from Real Betis?

This could end up being a masterstroke from Spurs chairman Daniel Levy.

Should Cardoso shine in Spain this year, Tottenham will already have a deal in place and will be able to quickly add the midfielder to their squad next summer.

And if the 22-year-old doesn’t perform well this season, Tottenham have no obligation to purchase him.

Therefore, it is a win-win for Spurs, who were also able to get a high-earner in Giovani Lo Celso, off the books.
