Ange Postecoglou may decide against utilising Brennan Johnson in his starting XI as Tottenham prepare to face Arsenal on Sunday (15 September).

The North London derby is a true test for any Spurs manager, and given that the Australian is winless against Mikel Arteta and the Gunners in two meetings, he will be keen to prove himself in front of the home crowd.

Coming off the back of a 2-1 defeat to Newcastle United, Postecoglou has many squad decisions to make if the Lilywhites are to claim a victory at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium after the international break.

Despite making an impact against the Magpies from the bench, Brennan Johnson might be set to miss out again after his weakness was highlighted during Wales’ 0-0 draw against Turkey on Friday 6 September.

Taking to X on Friday (6 September), journalist Megan Feringa wrote: “His crosses leave much to be desired,” though she did add that it was the most he had grafted in a Wales shirt.

Ange Postecoglou to snub Brennan Johnson for Tottenham v Arsenal

While the winger used his pace to his advantage, also working back in defence and entering into six ground duels at the Cardiff City Stadium [FotMob], Postecoglou will not be convinced by his end product.

Johnson played all 90 minutes, hitting the target with zero per cent of his shots, completing zero per cent of his four attempted crosses, missing one big chance, and only being successful in 50 per cent of his dribbles.

While the Welshman does rank in the top 92 percentile for assists among all wingers and forwards across Europe’s top five leagues over the past year, as per FBref, Postecoglou will be looking for a much more accurate attacker against the Gunners.

He only ranks in the bottom 23 percentile for passes completed, the bottom 25 percentile for successful take-ons and the bottom 27 percentile for progressive carries.

Chances in the North London derby may be hard to come by for Spurs, so they will need someone on the flank with more pin-point accuracy, which could see Johnson dropped to the bench once again on the basis of this latest rather underwhelming display for Wales.
